Hello everybody,

Our Kickstarter campaign for Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now live!!! If you enjoyed Divinity: Original Sin, you definitely want to check this out. Let us know what you think!

2015-08-12

It is with great excitement that we can announce our most ambitious project ever - Divinity: Original Sin 2!

For a very long time we've dreamed of making a certain type of RPG. Something even bigger, better, and more engaging than Divinity: Original Sin. Now it might finally be within our reach. But we can't reach that dream without your help.

As we made Divinity: Original Sin, our fans and community gave us two things: the freedom to make the game that we wanted to make, and the guidance to make a game that was even better than we planned. Your feedback pushed us in directions we never could have expected, and we're so grateful for that push. Without the community, Divinity: Original Sin would never have been the success that it was, and now we're asking for your support and guidance once again.

On the August 26th we'll be returning to Kickstarter with Divinity: Original Sin 2, but you don't have to wait until then to have your say. We'll want a lot of feedback as we progress, but right now we want to know what YOU want from the Kickstarter campaign. So please head over to our Divinity: Original Sin 2 page to suggest what rewards you'd like to see, and vote on the rewards that others have suggested!

We're very excited for you to get your first glimpse at what we're creating, but if you're going to be at PAX Prime at the end of August then we can go one better,  We'll be at booth #6011, where we'll have a playable prototype for you to get your hands on and experience some of the fantastic new features that we've been working on.

Making Divinity: Original Sin with you has been one hell of a ride so far, and we're happy to say that this ride is only getting started…

With all of the excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, it’s understandable that a lot of you have questions. But don’t worry, we have plenty of answers!

  • What resolution and frame-rate do you target for consoles?

We target Full HD 1080p at 30FPS for both Xbox One and PS4, split screen included.

  • What are the PC system requirements for Enhanced Edition?

Min. requirements: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or Windows 8.1 64 bit, or higher; Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or equivalent, 4GB memory, DirectX 11 compatible GPU

Recommended: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or Windows 8.1 64 bit, or higher; Intel i5 2400 or higher, 4GB memory, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 550 or ATI™ Radeon™ HD 6XXX or higher

  • When will the Linux version be available?

We plan to release it at the same time as the PC version.

  • What languages will be supported in the first release?

English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Polish. Voiceover will be available in English only.

  • Who gets the PC or Mac version of the Enhanced Edition for free?

Anyone who bought Divinity: Original Sin on Steam or GOG, and anyone who got a Steam/GOG key from a retail box or Humble Bundle. Note that this offer will only be available if you bought Divinity: Original Sin before the Enhanced Edition is released.

  • What new content comes with the Enhanced Edition?

There are many changes in the storyline including hours of extra end-game content.  We’ve recorded voiceovers for each and every NPC dialog, added new quests and situations, and added new characters and game modes. And that’s not all; there are lots of new features that we will be talking about in the coming months!

  • If I own Divinity: Original Sin, how do I get my copy of the Enhanced Edition?

You don’t have to do anything! The Enhanced Edition will simply appear in your Steam/GOG library when the game is released.

  • Will the game be simplified for consoles, and will that affect the PC version?

No, the only difference between the console and PC version will be the User Interface (you can still activate the console UI on the PC by plugging in a controller). The main “Classic” difficulty mode is the same level of difficulty as the original game.

  • Will my saved games transfer from Divinity:Original Sin?

Unfortunately not. There is too much new content and we’ve made too many changes to the underlying code for saved games from D:OS to work.

  • Will my Original Sin DLC transfer to the Enhanced Edition ?

The Source Hunter Pack and The Bear and The Burglar DLC will both be included for everyone in the Enhanced Edition.

  • Will any of the new features be included in the existing game?

No. We want to let people still be able to play “Vanilla” Divinity: Original Sin as it was released and improved by subsequent patches.

  • Will the Enhanced Edition offer more challenging gameplay?

If you’re going to try some of the new modes, you will definitely find the game more challenging.

  • How will the user and graphic interfaces differ between PC and console versions?

They are completely different, with PC UI being improved as well. But if you are on a PC and you plug in a controller, the game will switch to the console UI.

  • Should I play the Enhanced Edition if I've already finished the original?

Absolutely! Try the couch co-op and new game modes - you’ll love them. And don’t underestimate what we’ve done to the game world - it’s a much deeper experience now, with a very different end game experience.

  • I backed the Kickstarter, can I get my copy of the Enhanced Edition on my console instead of my PC?

Unfortunately not, only PC/Mac versions of the Enhanced Edition will become available for free for existing owners.

  • Are there any new modding tools?

We’ve been working on the editor to make it much more stable. More to announce at a later date.

  • When can I see more?

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition will be playable at Gamescom 2015!

Today we are very excited to announce Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition for PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC, Mac, SteamOS and Linux. This isn't just some patch or minor content update to the game you all know and (hopefully) love; it's a whole new experience! With controller support, local co-op with split screen, fully voiced characters, a totally reworked story (with a brand new ending), and much more, we're very proud to finally be able to share what we've crafted here at Larian.

In the update video below, Swen reveals a little more about the fantastic new features you can look forward to in Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition.

We've also included controller support on PC, so now you can kick back and explore Rivellon from the comfort of your sofa with Steam's Big Picture. We've put a lot of effort into streamlining the experience and have designed a slick, new UI that makes playing with a controller just as intuitive and fun as playing with mouse and keyboard. As well as local co-op, split screen and controller support, the Enhanced Edition also features:

  • All characters are now fully voiced by AAA-voice actors
  • New quests, new characters, and new content
  • Entirely new gameplay modes and character builds
  • A heavily rewritten story with a brand new ending
  • Massively reworked visuals and sound effects
  • The Enhanced Edition will be completely free to everyone who owns Original Sin.
  • And much more to be announced in the coming months!

For more information, and not only for Kickstarter backers, please read Kickstarter Update 67 and for a more in-depth view behind the scenes, as always there is Swen's blog. A website about the Enhanced Edition is being built from the ground up at divinityoriginalsin-enhanced.com

Over at Larian everyone is on cloud nine now that we've won several major awards for Divinity: Original Sin! GameSpot: 'In 2014's best PC game, there is no greater role to play than that of yourself.'

First up is the hands down phenomenal PC Game of the Year award bestowed upon us by Gamespot. Needless to say, we're far, far over the moon! And of course we're equally proud of having been named The Bestest Best Kickstarter of 2014 by Rock, Paper, Shotgun, proving once again that Divinity: Original Sin couldn't have been made without our 21.040 backers and the incredible amount of support and feedback we received (and keep receiving) from our community! We say it every time you start the game and we'll say it once again: YOU ROCK!

Also, our very own David went to Bilbao, Spain to receive the award for Best Role-Playing Game of 2014 at the Fun & Serious Game festival. Just don't ask him where the trophy is...

David in a suit. We couldn't believe our eyes either!

David in a suit. We couldn't believe our eyes either! In addition to these, we've been nominated for a lot of other awards, some of which you can still vote for. So if you're convinced Original Sin should receive another award, try casting your vote over at IGN. We're already thrilled to be on their list, but obviously it'd be a complete X-mas miracle should we end up on top ;)

All well and good, but where is my hardcore mode?

Rest assured that these accolades don't make us want to kick back and rest on our laurels: quite on the contrary! We realise all too well that Original Sin is a good, but not a flawless game and a lot of effort has gone into upgrading a multitude of the game's aspects like combat, pacing, UI and main story narration. And yes, work on the hardcore mode still continues and yes, same goes for the Linux version! It will take us some time to implement all these changes and features, but in the meantime a patch with a whole host of other fixes should be ready for you somewhere in January. Actually, there's still a ton of stuff to talk about, so for a full overview of what we're planning for Original Sin, future projects and Larian Studios itself, head over to Swen's blog and get the scoop!

Think you can do better? Join us!

Now that Larian is expanding and going global (or at least to Canada and Russia!) we'll be on the lookout for new, talented people that want to join us in creating our own unique blend of RPG goodness. So have a look at our Jobs page and see if you fit any of our descriptions. All are welcome!

Divinity: United States

The little RPG that could, Divinity: Original Sin, began as an idea funded by the fans. From there it proceeded to a critically-acclaimed launch on Steam, and now it rolls into all major US retailers including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target just in time for Christmas. Looking for the perfect gift for that special someone (or for an excuse to ignore your uncle's political opinions at dinner)? Look no further!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!

Have a merry Christmas, a fantastic new year and do keep playing! To celebrate Thomas made a special extended edition of the Year in Review video in which he tried to be funny! Enjoy!

This Tuesday, November 4th, we tried something new by hosting a live Twitch podcast with our devs (and a special guest Jesse Cox) in which you told us what things you liked and didn’t like about Divinity: Original Sin. Check out how that happened! A new patch

We just released a big update for Divinity:Original Sin that includes over a 150 fixes. The full changelist is too big to list here, but you can find all the details on our forums. This update should fix a lot of the smaller lingering bugs and also address a number of balancing issues.

Physical boxes coming to US retail!

That’s right! To the surprise of everybody at Larian we’ll actually have boxes of Divinity:Original Sin in stores in the US during the X-mas holidays. It turns out that we misjudged the market and that there was quite some demand. We’ll let you know the exact release details and which chains are participating once we received all the confirmations.

The App store release is nigh

Originally scheduled for last month, the App store version of Divinity:Original Sin featuring full Game Center integration is currently in review at Apple. If that goes well, it should be available on the App store by next week. For the people out there who like stats, currently 10% of our Steam sales are coming from Mac users, so we’re very curious to see what a release on the App store will do.

Further Development

Development is continuing with things like the Linux version and the hardcore mode still on our lists, but as we want to do this thoroughly, it will still take some time before we’re ready. The Linux version especially suffered an extra delay as a result of our porting team having to fix a number of compatibility issues that popped up with the release of Yosemite. Whereas we initially hoped to get the Linux version done this year, it looks like it’ll be the beginning of next year now.  We know that’ll disappoint a few among you but bear in mind that we’re doing a real port just like we did with the Mac version.

Want to work at Larian Studios?

Be sure to subscribe to our twitter account or like us on facebook. We’re working on new cool stuff and will be looking for people. The good news is – you won’t necessarily have to live/come live in Belgium to join our team so stay tuned.
